AIS ANTENNAS
Automatic identification systems (AIS) are used to automatically identify and track ships and other watercraft by electronically
exchanging data with other ships, AIS base stations and satellites. This technology has many uses at sea including collision
avoidance, fishing fleet monitoring and control, vessel traffic services, maritime security, and search and rescue, to name a few.
Shakespeare® Marine AIS antennas are designed and manufactured specifically for AIS services, and are available in styles and
sizes to match our other VHF-style antennas. Being VHF-based, reach and antenna mounting guidelines are very similar to a
traditional VHF system/antenna; tall AIS antennas highly mounted on larger ships can provide an effective range of about 60 nautical
miles (111 Km) when paired with an appropriate AIS set, while smaller antennas mounted on small craft at sea level can extend
effective communication to about 5 nautical miles (9 Km). Shakespeare® provides feature-packed AIS antenna solutions in our
Classic series, and the most durable and attractive commercial grade AIS antennas on the market in our Phase III™ product family.
